Koopa Paratroopas, or simply Paratroopas, are a recurring enemy within the Mario franchise, and are a winged variant of Koopa Troopas. Just as their parent species generally wears either a green or a red shell, Koopa Paratroopas also do, although more often the latter.
Paratroopas make their first overall appearance in Super Mario Bros., in which they are an enemy. In it and subsequent Super Mario titles, stomping on a Paratroopa turns it into a regular Koopa Troopa. Mario Hoops 3-on-3 is the first game in which a Paratroopa appears alongside Final Fantasy characters, and even features it as a playable character.
History
Mario Hoops 3-on-3

In Mario Hoops 3-on-3, a red Paratroopa is featured as an unlockable playable character. Similar to its appearance in Mario Tennis, it is a Tricky character, meaning that its shots to the hoop are hard to anticipate and predict. It can be unlocked by at least winning a bronze trophy in the regular Mushroom Tourney. Its special ability is the Wing Shot, which can be performed by tapping the screen in an 'N' pattern twice.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Both green and red Paratroopas appear in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS as enemies in Smash Run and each having their own trophy, named Koopa Paratroopa (Red) and Koopa Paratroopa (Green) respectively. They act similarly as in Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. Green Paratroopas hop up and down toward the player and the red ones fly in either a vertical or a horizontal pattern. If the player's fighter gets close enough to a Paratroopa, it attempts to headbutt them. Jumping on a Paratroopa removes its wings and turns it into a Koopa Troopa.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, there is another trophy of a red Koopa Paratroopa, although one of a green Koopa Paratroopa does not appear. The trophy is still titled "Koopa Paratroopa (Red)." It has a different description than in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS due to not being associated with Smash Run, a mode exclusive to Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, but the trophy has the same appearance.
